April 14 Drive

Fewer and fewer of us remember the one room school house unless you live in South Dakota where they were more common much later in the 20th century. Exit 37 off I-90 on the way to Sturgis will take you to this site.

Shortly after a left turn at the school house you get this amazing view of Bear Butte. Use your imagination, the bear's head is to the right and his rump is up in the air on the left. This is a great hike and the region is unique because there are no other geographic features like it nearby. This is a sacred site to Native Americans so when hiking be respectful. This is the bear that "carved" the grooves in Devil's Tower.
