How Things Change: More time saving home appliances 1959 & 1961

Notice these items were purchased a couple of years apart. True fiscal conservatives, you never depleted your savings if possible. You put off until the money was there. "Paid in full" is very common on Lyman and Eileen's bills.

How Things Change: Freezer, Refrigerator 1950

A reminder of the booming American economy. As you look at these posts notice the number of items purchased in the 40s and 50s. Two adults working, no children. They were living the American dream.

How Things Change: Filter Queen, 1950

Continuing to add convenience to the home. I noticed Aunt Eileen got wheels with hers, the first vacuum I used as a child didn't have wheels, runners only.

Wednesday morning hike 6/13/18

Picture from our Sunday hike, there are 3 of these crossings.

Sheridan Lake, CCC project. A small town was flooded when this lake was built.

Our Wednesday morning hike took us to
Spring Creek trail-head from which we hiked to Sheridan Lake. Beautiful weather, cool, bit overcast when we left to clear blue skies on our return. The bridge in the picture to the right is crossed when your hike the Centennial Trail or when out for day trips like ours. We had hiked part of this trail on Sunday afternoon but it was pretty busy. Today we only met two couples on our return trip.

How Things Change: Electrical, 1961

Numerous changes since my earlier electrical post. Notice the phone numbers getting longer. Just finished a book on the Eisenhower years. These posts demonstrate the tremendous economic growth of the 1950s. Income rose, unemployment declined and the federal government worked hard to balance the budget. Income tax was high but, as Ike said, if you want improvements someone has to pay. Very different decade than our cut taxes, increase spending, debt rises attitude that has guided many presidencies since Reagan.

How Things Change: Plumbing, 1952

I know you won't get a plumber today for this money. 1952 was still two years before I was born. I notice there are three numbers and letter for this phone.

How Things Change: Electrical, 1950

Continuing my examples of bills from the mid-twentieth century. Lyman and Eileen had some electrical work done. Not sure this would cover 2 hours of labor today. Note the phone number in the upper left corner of the bill.
