Hell Canyon Hike: January 12, 2019

Just west of Custer, SD is this wonderful trail. We had driven down to do a snowshoe hike at Jewel Cave National Park forgetting the shut down would close the park. Drove west a few miles and found this gem of a trail. We didn't need our snowshoes.

Heading into the canyon and back to where the CCC camp was set up during the Depression years while the corps members worked on Jewel Cave.

The spring box was built by the CCC to maintain a solid water supply. It's about 3' deep inside the concrete box so water was always available.

Yes, cross country skiers also use this area. A reminder, the sky often looks like this in SoDak, low humidity gives us beautiful blue skies.
