About 15 miles south of Hettinger, ND is this sod house. I had posted an earlier picture but our friend who actually lived the first months of her life here loaned me some pictures to scan and post.
These interior pictures are what amazed me. Lana had told us of her youth playing in the "toy" kitchen with a stove and real ice box. Those of us who didn't grown up around soddies and had to depend upon history books for our pictures have an inaccurate image of life. Notice the joists for a second floor.
Still implements of an earlier life hanging on the wall. I see the ice tongs toward the right and a trap hanging on the wall on the left.
